Weekend Fun… Or How To Annoy Hummingbirds…

I just purchased a ring flash for my camera and spent the better part of the weekend being annoying to hummingbirds. Luckily my feeder is full of nectar they love and so they put up with it. šŸ˜€

I set the ring flash to only use one side of the ring and at about 1/4 power… and after some trial and error I was able to get this shot that I’m very proud of…

aperture: ʒ/10.0
shutter: 1/200
iso: 100
ring flash: mode: M ratio: a –, b 1/4
lens: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
focal length: 109mm

Today, I read the manual a bit closer and figured out how to get the flash and the shutter to sync and was able to increase the shutter to 1/2000 (to capture the wings). Unfortunately, that also meant that I could not take a bunch of pictures in quick succession (and the light was fading so I had to put the flash at full power), so some of my shots the flash did not fire. All in all, I had a great time and I learned a lot. Enjoy…

aperture: ʒ/5.6
shutter: 1/2000
iso: 400
ring flash: mode: ETTL ratio: 1:4
lens: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
focal length: 90mm

aperture: ʒ/5.6
shutter: 1/2000
iso: 1600
ring flash: mode: ETTL ratio: 1:4 did not fire
lens: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
focal length: 90mm

aperture: ʒ/5.6
shutter: 1/2000
iso: 400
ring flash: mode: ETTL ratio: 1:4
lens: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
focal length: 85mm

Until next time…
