Chocolate-Almond-Banana-Berry or Almond-Banana-Very-Berry Smoothie

I made myself a smoothie yesterday, I’ve been adding a spoonful of almond butter to it lately. I was curious about the nutritional value of the smoothie, knowing that everything I was putting into the smoothie was good for me. I thought that maybe you’d be interested too. So I made the smoothie again today, took pictures this time and then set about calculating the nutritional facts. Here’s what I came up with…

calories: 419 calories from fat: 139 total fat: 15 g cholesterol: 0 mg
protein: 16 g total carbohydrate: 55 g sugars: 32 g dietary fiber: 9 g
vitamin A: 95% vitamin C: 95% vitamin D: 38% vitamin E: 25%
sodium: 189 mg calcium: 58% iron: 19% potassium: 16%
vitamin B6: 41% vitamin B12: 78% riboflavin: 53% niacin: 1%
folic acid: 29% zinc: 13% vitamin K: 49% iodine: 4%
selenium: 14% manganese: 19% chlorophyll: 19 mg phosphorus: 13%

I knew it was good for me, but I didn’t realize just how much vitamin A & C it had… nor did I realize how much vitamin B12. Very nice. 😀

I took 10 oz of silk and added a scoop of amazing grass green superfood (chocolate flavored this time) and blended…

Then I added a big spoonful of almond butter (~1 Tbsp) and blended some more…

Next I added a frozen banana, which I broke into four pieces, and about 1/3 cup frozen berries (cherries this time)…

Then I blended it well…

It made about 2.5 cups (20 oz)…

I like that the almond butter not only adds protein, but it also makes it a bit creamier, as if I blended soy milk with thick almond milk… very very good. This is my new go-to favorite way to make a smoothie. 😀 I like that I can change the green superfood powder to either berry or chocolate. I can also change up the frozen berries, I tend to use cherries, blueberries, or strawberries.

Until next time…
