Friday Night Bites…

For Friday Night Bites, I went to Spices Thai Cafe…

They are known for their spicy dishes around here and have a level system from 1-20 in hotness. My neighbor said she tried the level 7 and that’s as high as she could handle.

I ordered a few things so that we could get a better feel for the place. I like that you can get quite a few items on the menu made vegetarian and since there is a level system that also means that your food is made to order, nice.

I ordered Thai Spring Rolls (deep fried – stuffed with silver noodles and mixed vegetables, served with plum sauce), Phad Thai Noodles w/ Tofu (pan fried rice noodles with egg and bean sprouts [not vegan]), Spices Curry Noodles* w/ Tofu (rice noodles with mixed vegetables in coconut curry), and an order of Steamed Brown Rice. *I told the waiter that we were wimps, so he made the curry level 2.

Overall, very good. I like the convenience, but I’m fairly certain that I could have made a more flavorful curry, in fact, I have on several occasions (Katie’s curry 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0). Perhaps it’s because we only ordered level 2 and I’m thinking that the sauces are premade, with all the spices, flavor, and hotness all in one… so when you order a lesser level you don’t get as much flavor either, just my guess. I did like the rice noodles with the curry, so it’s always nice to get more ideas from a restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great dinner. And my usual ordering out rules are to get things I don’t usually make, that way I can get more ideas and I won’t feel like I could have made this dish at home. But it is what it is… I was tired from the day and it was convenient. And it was good and we over ate.

Which brings me to the next bit of things on my mind, I think I will slow down on the eating out. Perhaps once a week is just too often for us. I think once a month might be more our speed. I haven’t been blogging this week, I’ve been unplugged, if you will. During the week we had a lot of convenience foods… I’ve been off kilter lately. I need to find balance. I may change my mind next Friday, we’ll see, but today I’m thinking I need more of my meals.

As I strive to find balance and my mind becomes creative again I’ll be sure to blog about it. 🙂
