My taste-tester’s birthday is this week and I wanted to make him something special. We decided long ago to forgo presents on holidays/birthdays/anniversaries, instead we get what we want/need when we want/need it throughout the year (rather than waiting for that ‘special’ day). It is a system that works well for us, we no longer give each other gifts that the other didn’t really want, or stress about getting the ‘perfect’ gift.
But I do like to make something festive to eat on ‘special’ days, so last week I started asking him what kind of cake he wanted on his birthday. I also asked him if there was any specific meal he’d like.
He’s been mulling it over and today when I asked he replied with, “something with pineapples, blueberries, and strawberries.”
We both immediately thought of something that might come from Dairy Queen. But then he said something about pineapple pizza, and I said something about blueberry muffins. Throughout our conversation, leaning toward items that won’t take too long to prepare, we came up with these ideas …
Blueberries
Einstein’s Blueberry Bagels

Strawberries
Spinach salad with strawberries, blueberries, and pecans w/ raspberry vinaigrette

Pineapple
Pineapple Yummy bread (My signature wicked awesome vegan substitute for pizza)

Those will cover the day’s worth of meals, but we are still in need of some kind of YEA! item, ie. dessert.
Chocolate
Chuao Brownies! YUM!

I think these ideas will make his birthday just a little bit more special.
Q: What special things do you like to do for your loved ones on their birthday?
Until next time…
